Environmental Testing including Ozone

Our  Facilities  can  simulate  a  wide  variety  of  climatic  conditions  in  a  range  of  environmental chambers; from ozone to fog testing.

The Ozone Chamber can accommodate both static and dynamic Ozone testing. Testing can be conducted to a range of standards such as BS,EN,ISO,ASTM,DIN and BSS

Including

ISO1431-1 Static Ozone,

Salt Spray and Industrial Gases

  • Salt spray and Copper Assisted Salt Spray
  • Industrial gasses such as Sulphur Dioxide ,Hydrogen Sulphide, Nitrogen Oxides

Salt spray testing is a standard test method used to check corrosion resistance of coated samples. Coatings such as paints and varnishes provide corrosion resistance to metallic parts. The salt spray test is an accelerated corrosion test that produces a corrosive environment for the coated samples in order to predict its suitability in use as a protective finish. Addition of various gasses such as sulphur dioxide can expose the coated samples to industrial or ship stack emissions. Testing can be conducted to a range of standards such as BS,EN,ISO,ASTM,DIN and BSS

Including

ASTM B117 Salt, ASTM B368 Copper salt,BS EN 60068-2-52 Salt,BS EN 60068-2-60 Mixed gas, BS EN 60068-2-42 Sulphur Dioxide MIL-STD 810 Method 509. DEF STAN  00-35 Part 3, DEF STAN 07-55, RTCA DO160 Section 14

ASTM G85,A1 acetic acid salt spray test, continuous, A2 cyclic acidified salt spray test, A3 seawater acidified test, cyclic, ASTM G85 A4 Sulphur dioxide (SO2 ) salt spray test, cyclic, A5 – dilute electrolyte cyclic fog /dry test

Kesternich testing is another name for sulphur dioxide testing. There are a number of possible test methods such as DIN 50018 , ISO 3231 and ASTM G87 which are the most commonly used methods.

Temperature, Humidity, Pressure

Most of our chambers are programmable for cyclic or static testing. The maximum temperature range is -70 to +1200°C and humidity 0 - 99%RH. The chambers range from small to walk-in type.  Accurate humidity measurement is ensured by the use of hygrometers. Thermocouples  positioned in the chamber and on the test sample, determine the temperature profile.

We are able to undertake a range of pressure testing using both pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Negative pressure (vacuum) can also be applied if required.

All measurement equipment can be  continuously monitored by an independent computer controlled data collection system, and tests can be carried out to most relevant international standards such as BS,EN,ISO,ASTM, DIN and BSS

Including

BS EN60068-2-14 Change inTemperature,  BS3G100 Sub section 3.2

BS EN 60068-2-38 Cyclic Temperature/humidity, RTCA DO160 Section 4

BS EN 60068-2-2 , IEC 60068-2-2, DEF STAN 00-35

ASTM C481 Aging  DEF STAN 07-55 (Part 2)   MIL STD 810

ASTM D3045 Aging., Accelerated stress testing(thermal)

Fluids Exposure

Fluid Exposure. A range of fluids from simulated fuels through to deicer fluids used in aerospace applications are available. Exposure of products and materials to fluids found in service can ensure their suitability and function. Testing can be conducted to a range of standards such as BS,EN,ISO,ASTM,DIN and BSS

Including

BS903-A16     BS ISO1817     DEF STAN 00 35 Part 3                BS3G 100 Part 2 Section 3.12

Mil-Std-810     RTCA/DO160 Section 11

Cyclic Testing

Most environmental exposures can be cyclic in nature.  Test specimens or products can be transferred from one environment to another both manually and automatically.

Environments such as:-

Pressure, Humidity, Temperature, Fluids, salt spray, Toxic gases

This exposure of products and materials to conditions similar to that  found in service can ensure their suitability and function. Testing can be conducted to a range of standards such as BS,EN,ISO,ASTM and DIN

Including

ASTM D1183 Adhesives - cyclic ageing

Testing Specific - Weathering

Accelerated weathering testers are used throughout the world. In just a few days or weeks, we can reproduce damage that may occur over months or even years outdoors.

Ultraviolet Light
Ultraviolet light causes almost all the photo degradation that materials experience when exposed outdoors. Our testers reproduces the UV portion of the spectrum which effects such materials. Our  lamps are one of  the best available for simulation of short-wave sunlight. It is especially useful for comparing the performance of different types of polymers and stabilizers.

Moisture Simulation
Products outdoors can be exposed to moisture, in the form of dew, for up to 15hours per day. Our weatherometers provide a rigorous, yet highly realistic, moisture exposure with cycles of hot condensing humidity. Using a water spray we can simulate the effects of rain, such as thermal shock and erosion.

Testing can be conducted to a range of standards such as BS,EN,ISO,ASTM and DIN

Including

BS EN ISO 4892 methods of exposure to laboratory light
